A few months ago I made a mistake 🙁
.
I introduced my daughter Milia to ketchup..
.
Now that might not sound like that big of a mistake to you but for me I was a little upset..
.
Most store bought ketchups are FILLED with sugar and other ingredients that I don’t want to put into my body let alone my own daughters… but nevertheless, I was the one who gave it to her. It was my fault and I was reaping the repercussions of it.
.
I was constantly feeling guilty every time that I gave her some with her food but the problem was that if I didn’t, she would ask for it.. and I am sure you know how children can be relentless.
.
So I would eventually give in..
.
Until one day it hit me..
.
Why don’t I make my own?
.
I felt sort of stupid after saying it because I am the one with my own cookbook and have plenty of my own sauces in it. But for some reason I never thought to make my own ketchup.
.
So there I was on a mission to discover how to make a delicious, healthy ketchup that my daughter would love.
.
It took some time but I eventually fell into the perfect recipe..
.
Now, the recipe doesn’t taste as sweet as store bought ketchup.. In fact, it tastes a lot like the ‘original’ ketchup. You know, the one you would buy in the glass bottle that you would have to ‘hit’ the get out 🙂
.
Either way, it is daughter approved and I am more than excited to be sharing it with you!!
.
Here we go…

Home-Made Healthy Ketchup
Author:
Prep time:
Total time:
Serves: 10-20 Servings

Ingredients
  • 2, 6oz can tomato paste
  • ½ cup of vinegar (apple cider of white)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 2 teaspoons mustard powder
  • Large pinch of pepper
  • 2 teaspoons honey for sweeting
Instructions
  1. Mix together until consistency of ketchup and serve.
Notes
Stays 1-2 weeks in the fridge.

If consistency is too thick add a bit more vinegar until desired consistency.

Add more honey for desired sweetness.

Add different herbs for different flavor.

Here is an image of it being mixed… I enjoyed it that day along with some chicken and baked potatoes I made from Flavilcious Cooking 🙂

For the Aztec Sea Salt I personally use and recommend click here.
