What Builds You Stronger…

By April 20, 2015April 28th, 20157 Comments

What does a successful woman look like to you? Does she have fancy clothes, a nice body, kids that behave? What about an important career or a successful husband?

A successful woman in my opinion has control of her emotions, runs a loving and godly household, supports her husband and has his respect back, and takes care of her needs before meeting the needs of others.

That last point, meeting her needs before meeting the needs of others, is not only tough to write, it’s tough to do!

Taking care of myself is something I have always done in the past but since having a child, have found it the most challenging to do.

Yes, I workout, cook healthy meals, enjoy a trip here and there and even get a pedicure once a month. But to truly “take care” of myself, I have to ensure my stress level is low, and that I am making time doing things that rejuvenate me.

What are the things in your life that renew you?

For me, it’s spending time reading, learning and just being alone; the only things that I struggle to make time doing.

I feel guilty when I am upstairs trying to read while I hear Milia calling “mommy”. I have to leave the house most days to get “me time”.

Taking care of yourself is vital for the wellbeing of your family. I’ll write that again, taking care of yourself is vital for the wellbeing of your family.

I have to tell myself this weekly. If I am stressed and feeling down on myself, what do you think my demeanour is going to be like with my husband and child?

Just out of curiosity, do you meditate? Meditation is becoming so popular now. I haven’t tried meditation but am thinking that perhaps I should.

Let me know your experience with mediation and the ways you find time for you.

Thanks for reading and I am looking forward to hearing from you.

A successful woman is one who can build a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at her.

I am a mom of three wonderful daughters. I love muay thai kickboxing and running. I love checking to see your latest workouts and toning techniques. At the end of a long day of errands and picking up and dropping off everyone, I make sure to take just 10 minutes for myself at night before bed for some easy yoga, stretching and meditation. I breathe away the stresses of the day. I wake up a much happier person!

Hey Flavia, I have weekly goals and one of them last week was to meditate. I heard about a free app called “Headspace” which provided a simple guided meditation for 10 days. I am on day 9 and would recommend it to someone just starting out. They are only 10 min segments and actually make a big difference that carries on throughout my day. I find myself taking more deep breaths throughout the day and am always on the go mentally or physically.
