Why You Should Stretch

Stretching has numerous other benefits. It reduces the amount of lactic acid and inflammation in your muscle tissue, while preventing muscle cramps. Most importantly, because stretching reduces your body’s automatic need to protect itself against overextension, it improves your flexibility. And the more flexible you are, the easier your muscles are able to move through the full range of motion. This increases your performance, reduces your risk of injury and makes for greateer gain in your muscle size and functioning.

Back Stretch — Called the “Cat and Camel”

Start in the kneeling position, with your hands flat on the floor. Then, looking at the floor and without pulling, let your tummy sag to the floor and your face turned to the ceiling, arching your back as far as you can.

Then, do the opposite: Round your back by tightening the abdominals and lowering your head to the floor.

    Yes I’ve known about the impotence of stretching for a good minte now. I would definitely recommend it! My hip flexers were super tight which caused me to walk stiff. Now I have fluidity.

    Hi Flavia,

    I am looking for some career advice, if you don’t mind? I have found myself in a position where I hate my current job and feel the area in which I am qualified is not what I am meant to be doing!! I am thinking of going to study to become a personal trainer. I have a great interest in health and fitness and feel very strongly about this area, but am a bit lacking in the confidence to get out there and do it!! I know you have studied and become certified and I was wondering if it is really difficult to make a living in this area and if you have any advice in general for me?

      Hey Clea, to become a successful personal trainer you have to sell yourself to your clients and you have to go out and get them in order to make some good money. The toughest part is getting the clients. You can go to seminars for to help with the marketing aspect or just hook up with a really great training facility that allows you to do just that. If you can shadow someone for a week to see if you like the behind the scenes. I wish you all the best.

    Remember all stretches need to be held for a full 30 seconds to make permanent changes to the length of the tissue!

    Thanks for telling us about your week Flavia, I am really looking forward to this stretching series. I am naturally VERY unflexible but I have been working on it and have gotten much better. I don’t know why, but my joints have been a lot better for the past 3 days!

      Yes. In order to make gains in muscle size you need to stretch and shorten the muscle. If you have better range of motion, your muscles will be able to stretch further. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn throught the day….that’s the short version 🙂

  • My partner and i modified the pass word instantly when I found vizgin must have been a fraud… My partner and i warned each of the folks in the mate listing over it. The idea became brought to me personally coming from somebody in the Bing mate listing… these folks were signed down. Lets hope these people failed to acquire cheated. It is a humiliation folks would likely do that.
